I have nothing much to say except that sometimes you just get beat.
Of all the things, I had trip jacks lose to a boat on the river and I didn\’t even slowplay it.
I had AK 4 times, missed the flop every time, bluffed at it every time (I don\’t know why) and got stomped every single time. I know it\’s just lousy luck but things like that can make a guy really hate a hand.
It was just one of those nights where I\’d get something decent, hit a flop and everyone would fold if I bet, and if I didn\’t they\’d draw out to a better 2 pair or flush or whatever. Really rough, but not something I can control very well. I\’m sure I made some horrible mistakes, but at the same time realistically I\’m not going to miss the flop and have someone all-in against my bluff every time so I know it was just a lame week.
At one point there was some dude that sat at the table who reeked of BO and cloves. His fingernails looked like he hadn\’t made an effort in cleaning them in years. Very scary guy. Thankfully he was waiting for a 3/6 table instead of 1/1/2 and he didn\’t stick around long but I very much feel sorry for whatever table got him later. I should have left when he showed up and maybe I\’d have found a better table, but it wasn\’t meant to be.
If I can take away anything, it\’s that I need to identify the table when I sit down and not linger at a tight and skilled table where everyone\’s going to try fancy moves and only stick around with great hands. That was definitely the table I had, so I should have just left after a couple of orbits and I\’d figured out that the table was going to be full of people who are better than I am, or at least weren\’t going to stick their neck out with middle pair.
